Here we have the iPhone X screen replacement step by step visual guide that you can follow to safely replace your broken screen with a new one
The iPhone is a pretty popular device. Apple’s iPhone X was especially notable since the company introduced a bunch of changes in the phone’s design. Another thing that was especially notable about the iPhone X was the fact that it was really fragile. The phone’s glass rear panel and bezel-less screen made it vulnerable to damage. And to make matters worse, Apple made this phone really hard to disassemble. As a result, the iPhone X is rather hard to repair.
Today, we are going to look at how can you replace a screen on the iPhone X. Since this phone is hard to disassemble, you really shouldn’t try this if you aren’t experienced. You need to have the right tools on hand as well.
When done right, a screen replacement can make your phone look brand new. Here’s everything that you will need:
- P2 Pentalobe Screwdriver iPhone
- Opening Picks Set
- Suction Cups
- Spudger
- Tweezers
- Tri-point Y000 Screwdriver Bit
- Heat Gun or Hair Dryer
Apart from tools, you will also need the following spare parts:
- iPhone X Display Assembly Adhesive
- iPhone X Digitizer Cable Connector Foam Pads
- iPhone X Spare Screen
- iPhone X Screen Protector (Optional)
Step 1
Being by ensuring that your iPhone’s battery level is below 25%. This reduces the chances of its battery exploding in case you puncture.
- After checking the battery level, power-off your phone.
- Find 2 6.9mm pentalobe screws near the phone’s charging port and remove them.
Step 2
- Before you being opening your phone, apply tape over any cracked areas. You need to pry your phone open. During the prying, cracked glass surfaces can shatter and cause you harm. Applying tape will make the process safer and less messy. It also helps provide a bit of structural integrity to your device.
- The more damaged your phone is, the more layers of tape you should apply onto the damaged surface. This will help provide you a surface to hold onto while opening your phone.
Step 3
- In order to begin opening the phone, you need to soften the adhesive holding it together. This is done by heating the edges of the phone. You can do this with a heat gun or blow dryer.
- Heat the edges of your phone till they are hot to touch. Make sure to not go overboard as you could damage your phone.
Step 4
- Once the adhesive has been heated, use a suction cup to pull the phone apart. The suction cup should be placed near the phone’s bottom. Make sure that you don’t place it on your phone’s curved edges.
- Once the suction cup is in place, pull on it slowly and firmly. Doing so will create a small gap between the screen and the phone’s body.
- Take an opening pick and insert it into the gap. Alternatively, you could use a cutter for this job as well.
- Keep in mind that the adhesive holding the phone together is pretty strong. If you’re having a hard time in creating that gap, you should try heating the adhesive again.
Step 5
- Once you have inserted your opening pick into the gap, begin moving it through the gap. This will slice away at the adhesive. Bear in mind that this process will take time and patience. You will have to heat the adhesive more than once in order to keep it soft.
- While slicing the adhesive, take care to not push the pick too far inside the device. Doing so could damage its internal components.
Step 6
- Work your way through the screen’s bottom and sides. After reaching the mid-section, adjust the positioning of your suction cup if needed.
Step 7
- The top edge of the screen is held in place with adhesive and clips. You should tackle this part of the screen after dealing with the rest of its edges.
- Slice away at the adhesive as you would. But while doing so, gently pull the screen downwards towards the charging port. You will need to wiggle around a bit in order to undo the clips.
- Make sure that you don’t use too much force. You could end up breaking the clips.
Step 8
- Once the screen has come loose, gently open it from the left side. The iPhone will open like a book; the right side of the screen will have a bunch of wires so be careful not to jerk the screen.
- Gently lean the display against something. Make sure that you don’t place any extra pressure on the phone’s wiring while handling the screen.
Step 9
- Now, begin removing screws from your phone’s logic board connection bracket. It is held in place with 5 Y000 screws.
- Make sure that you take pictures of every component before you begin unscrewing it. These pictures will help you a lot when you’re putting your phone back together.
Step 10
- After the bracket’s screws have been removed, you can lift it out of its place. The bracket will be lightly fixed in its position. Take it out gently but firmly.
Step 11
- After removing the bracket, you will find the phone’s battery connector. Use a spudger or any other plastic tool to disconnect it. After disconnecting it, make sure that the connector is far away from the board so that it doesn’t accidentally make contact during your work.
- When disconnecting the battery connector, make sure that you don’t damage the silicon seal surrounding it. It helps safeguard your device from potential water damage.
Step 12
- Now use the spudger to disconnect the rest of the connectors that are securing the screen to the rest of the phone. When you have done that, you will be able to lift the screen away from the phone.
Step 13
- The screen itself will have a few sensors attached to it. If these aren’t damaged, you should remove them from the screen and install them on your replacement screen.
- These sensors are held in place by a few screws and adhesive. Take the screws out and then heat the area in order to soften the adhesive.
- Gently pull the sensors away from the screen and set them aside.
- Make sure to be gentle. You could end up damaging your components if you are too hasty.
Step 14
- The earpiece speaker and front sensor assembly will come off in one unit. After slicing away at its adhesive, you can remove it and set it aside. You will have already disconnected these from the phone when you were disconnecting the screen from the body.
- Your damaged screen is now completely disconnected from the rest of your device.
Step 15
- Prep the new screen and begin installing it. You will reassemble your phone by following the disassembly steps in reverse order.
Replacing the iPhone X’s screen is time consuming. You need to take extra care during the process in order to avoid damaging your device further. Keep in mind that when you open your phone, it loses its waterproofing ability. The strong adhesive acts as a barrier against water. If you prefer to go to the official apple service centre please see this for the address.
After installing a new screen on your device, you should power it on and test it before fully reassembling it. This way, you can figure out whether you put everything back together properly.
