Laptop fans keep the inner components from getting excessive hot which can damage the entire machine, here are the reasons why you should always clean your laptop fan
For someone who happens to be a workaholic, I cannot imagine a life without a functional laptop. Even when I happen to be on a vacation, which I am right now, having a laptop is essential because aside from answering emails on the phone, I really feel like using a proper laptop when it comes to doing more than that. Yes, I am a writer by profession and a laptop makes life easier when it comes to publishing articles, or even reading. Reading on the phone is not as immersive.
However, one of the things that I learned about owning and using a laptop for as long as I can remember my professional life is that it is extremely important and one cannot live without a proper laptop, to begin with.
Now, owning a laptop or a desktop computer, in general, is a lot like owning a proper car. They both require maintenance, and if you are not regularly maintaining them, they tend to run into problems that might start out as small, but as the time passes by, the problems only get bigger and bigger.
One of the most common issues that you face in the laptop or a desktop pertains to the dust that ends up gathering over time. Now, I know how most of us are vigilant about this factor as we are always quick to make sure that there is no dust build-up within the fans or the cooling system, but at the same time, it is something that happens to be inevitable, and therefore, needs to be dealt with in the right way.
Thankfully, modern-day laptops have easy accessibility which means that you can clean your laptop’s internal with ease. All you need is some cotton swabs or a compressed can of air and you are good to go.
But that is not the question here. The question here is laptop fan cleaning a must every 2 years? Well, that is a bit of a technical question, because it is both a yes, and no.
Is Laptop Fan Cleaning a Must Every 2 Years?
I honestly wish answering this question was as easy as the statement itself, but that is not the case. For anyone who is living in areas that are prone to having more dust, cleaning your laptop in 2 years is not something we would suggest, to begin with. Why? Well, the reason why it is a bad idea is that dust is going to accumulate a lot sooner than 2 years, and if things are really dusty, there is a chance that your laptop might not survive that long, at all.
The silver lining here is that the laptop does not just die straight away. There are some tells that are very convincing that the laptop needs immediate fixing or cleaning and that way, you can start looking at the culprit.
However, at the same time, if you are living in an area where the amount of dust is not as high, you can actually be all good in 2 years, and when you start noticing that the laptop needs to be cleaned.
Now that we have answered the important question, there seem to be a few more questions that people have. How will I tell that my laptop fan needs cleaning or my laptop needs servicing? This is actually a funny thing because most of the times, it is difficult for people to even understand that their laptop needs maintenance. Especially the casual users who barely use their laptops, so every time there is a hit in the performance, they are not sure what just happened or why is it happening, in the first place. If you are a professional, however, things are going to be a lot different as you probably use your laptop a lot, and you would be able to tell that it has slowed down.
Thankfully, you are not going to be left alone in this as we have compiled a list of signs that are clear indicators that your laptop is in need of maintenance. These are surely going to help a lot of people, especially those who are always whether or not they should be getting their laptop serviced, in the first place.
How to Tell Your Laptop Needs Servicing?
Now for a lot of people who are adept at understanding when the laptop or a computer needs servicing, this will be an easy task. However, we must understand that not everyone uses these on the same scale, therefore, there are always discrepancies involved in the process, which means that we will need to talk about them in order to help people understand when is the right time to get their laptops serviced.
Below, you will find some pointers that will help you understand that your laptop fan needs to be cleared right away.
The Laptop Fan is Making Rattling Noises
Now here is one of the early signs that your laptop fan needs cleaning and that is when you start hearing a rattling noise in your fan. It could either be a very low rattle or a really loud one. This happens when there are dust and debris stuck in the laptop fan and it is hitting against the fan every time you turn on the laptop. If your laptop has easy access fans, you could easily remove it on your own. Otherwise, it is better that you take it to the professionals.
The Laptop Fan is Running at Full Speed or Very Slow
If your laptop fans are getting louder and louder or are getting quieter and quieter as the time goes by, there are chances that the fans are trying really hard or simply not able to keep the temperatures down because the laptop is getting hotter and hotter.
The right thing would be to get it serviced right away because this could damage the fan and in the worst-case scenario, could damage the laptop altogether.
Laptop Fans Are Not Running at All
This is perhaps the worst-case scenario that surely tells you that get something fixed and this refers to when your laptop fan stops running altogether and if this is something that is happening, it certainly means that the fans need cleaning or worse, they need to be replaced.
The good news is that doing so is not going to be difficult. As a matter of fact, many companies actually sell fans. So, you can just buy the one that corresponds with your laptop and replace it if you have the right tools.
Conclusion
In conclusion, it is important to understand that running into fan issues with your laptops is not something that is uncommon. As a matter of fact, it happens to be one of the most common issues with any device that has a fan.
The reason why it is more worrying for laptop owners is that laptops tend to run into such issues more often, and it is harder to access the fans without having proper tools, as well. Simply put, if you are being sensible about it, getting rid of such issues is a lot easier and simpler, and you would not have a damaged device on your hand either.
