Laptop Display Repair Terms

The display is the most visible component of a laptop โ€” and display faults are among the most common repairs. Understanding whether your fault is the backlight, the panel, the flex cable, or the graphics card determines the repair cost before you walk into a shop.

Backlight

The light source behind a laptop LCD. Failure causes a completely black screen โ€” faint image visible with a torch confirms it.

Black Screen

No visible image while the laptop runs. Multiple causes โ€” test with external monitor and torch before assuming the worst.

LCD

The display technology in most laptops. Backlight faults and panel faults are different repairs with different costs.

Flex Cable

Connects the screen to the motherboard through the hinge. Flickering that changes with lid angle means this cable is failing.

Dead Pixel

A permanently failed pixel. Single dots are cosmetic. Spreading clusters after a drop mean panel damage.
