Why it matters for phone repair
A phone with 79% battery health delivers only 79% of original capacity on every charge. On iPhones, low battery health also triggers processor throttling β making the phone feel sluggish. Singaporeβs heat accelerates degradation; a device that lasts 3 years in Europe may need a battery replacement after 18 months here.
How to check battery health
iPhone: Settings β Battery β Battery Health & Charging.
Android: Use AccuBattery or dial *#0228# on Samsung models.
Shareable fact: Apple throttles iPhone processor speed when battery health is low β many βslowβ old iPhones just need a battery replacement.
How it works
Lithium-ion batteries lose a small amount of permanent capacity with each charge cycle. Heat accelerates this. Battery health cannot be restored β only physical replacement returns the phone to 100%.
Real example
An iPhone 12 shuts down randomly at 30% remaining. Diagnosis shows 74% health. The phone is throttling to prevent shutdowns. Battery replacement returns it to 100%, removes throttling, and eliminates shutdowns.
Common mistakes
- Waiting for 0% before replacing. Replace below 80% rather than waiting for complete failure.
- Charging overnight every night. Charge to 80% and donβt let it drop below 20% to extend lifespan.
- Using while very hot and charging. Doubles the heat load and accelerates degradation significantly.
