iPad Charging Port Repair | BreakFixNow
A worn or dirty charging port is one of the most common reasons an iPad stops charging. It is often mistaken for a dead battery. At BreakFixNow we test the cable, the port and the battery separately before quoting, so you only pay for the part that has actually failed. Most iPad charging port jobs are finished in 1–2 hours. For other faults, see our full iPad repair services.
Signs Your iPad Charging Port Is Faulty
- Charges only at an angle – the cable has to be held or bent to make contact.
- Cable feels loose or falls out – lint packed into the port stops the plug seating fully.
- “Not Charging” or very slow charging – the iPad shows the cable icon but the percentage barely moves.
- Not recognised by your Mac or PC – the data pins are damaged even if some charging still gets through.
- “Accessory not supported” or liquid detected warnings – often corrosion on the port contacts.
Try this first: test with a different Apple cable and a wall adapter of at least 20W. If it still won’t charge, shine a torch into the port. Grey fluff packed at the back is the usual culprit. Don’t dig at it with metal; a careful clean is free when you bring it in.

Lightning or USB-C: Which Port Does Your iPad Have?
- USB-C – iPad Pro (2018 and later), iPad Air (4th generation and later), iPad mini (6th generation and later), iPad (10th generation and later).
- Lightning – iPad (9th generation and earlier), iPad Air (3rd generation and earlier), iPad mini (5th generation and earlier), iPad Pro 9.7-inch, 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch (1st and 2nd generation).
Both types fail the same ways: lint, bent or burnt pins, and corrosion. More on the difference in our glossary entry Lightning vs USB-C.
Port, Battery or Board?
An iPad that won’t charge is not always a port problem. If the port is clean and a known-good cable still does nothing, the fault may be the battery or the charging chip on the logic board. Our free diagnosis tells you which before you pay for anything. Board-level charging faults are quoted separately under motherboard repair.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does iPad charging port repair cost?
iPad charging port repair costs $79–129 depending on the model. Cleaning a lint-blocked port is free with our diagnosis.
How long does iPad charging port repair take?
Most iPad charging port repairs take 1–2 hours. A simple clean takes 15–30 minutes.
Will I lose my data?
No. A charging port repair does not touch your data. We still recommend an iCloud backup before any repair, just in case.
My iPad only charges when I hold the cable. Is that the port?
Almost always. Angle-dependent charging means the pins are no longer making firm contact, either because of packed lint or worn and bent contacts.
Can I walk in?
Yes. Walk in to any of our outlets in Bugis, Marine Parade, Jurong East or Ang Mo Kio, or WhatsApp us your iPad model first so we can confirm the part is in stock.
